Allergy Injections

Allergy Shots (Immunotherapy): Your allergy test results will be used to formulate a starting treatment vial made specific for your allergies and level of sensitivities. Your injection will be given on a regular weekly treatment schedule. Your injections will start with small doses and increase each week until a certain dose is reached. You will maintain this dose until this vial has been completed. If there have been no problems with the injections, your next vial (or vials) may be made stronger.

You may begin to notice a relief of your allergy symptoms as soon as just a few weeks after starting treatment, but it could take a few months or more. The symptom relief is very gradual and you may not even realize at first how much you have improved. Along with your immunotherapy, environmental (allergen) avoidance click here and allergy medications will be very helpful and encouraged.

Allergy Clinic Information

Most of our allergy patients receive their weekly shots at their family physician’s office. This is usually more convenient for them due to driving distance to and from our office. However, the patient must return to our allergy clinic to start each new vial.

If you are to receive your weekly injections at our office we ask that you arrive on time for your injections or new vial appointment. When you are late, this causes inconvenience to other patients who have arrived on time. Also, there is always a small risk that you may have a reaction to your treatment. This could be mild or severe (anaphylaxis) click here. For this reason, we insist that you remain in our allergy clinic under observation for 20 minutes after each injection. If you have history of reaction, we may ask you to stay for 30 minutes.
